The Communication and Internet Research lab (CIR) was established in April 1998
to replace the Internet Research and Development Unit (IRDU). The
centre is hosted by the School of Computing (SOC), National University
of Singapore as a faculty based research centre.
CiR's mission is to be a focal point for innovation, research and
development of pioneering Internet technologies and to be a key player
in the Next Generation Internet development nationally and internationally.
CiR would like to fulfil the above mission by working closely with industry,
and international organizations and institutes of higher learning in working
on upstream research and development projects. It provides a research
environment that is conducive for Internet research and development in protocol
engineering, systems software, and collaborative and applied Internet technology.
CiR would like to attract young, talented and creative students and challenge
them with problems in the broad areas of Internet and telecommunication research
that require innovative solutions.
It is CIR's vision to train students to become top-notch technologists in the
Internet and telecommunication area. These are students who have worked on
TCP/IP stack, operating systems like Linux and Free BSD, and who have passion to
work in systems area and who are similar in calibre to technical people in
Silicon Valley.
We provide an ambient within the centre for our students, that is tuned to
technopreneoural spirit and conducive for developing prototypes in advanced
application areas leading to licensing, patents, and start up companies.
